Poas Volcano and Waterfalls

Prepare for a 40-minute exploration at the Poas Volcano National Park, a brief yet captivating journey. Spend 10 minutes walking along the trail leading to the crater viewpoint, followed by 20 minutes absorbing the breathtaking scenery of the crater itself. The return walk takes another 10 minutes. Please note that access to Botos Lagoon is unavailable, and in the event of fog, there will be no extended waiting time as in the past.

Due to the altitude and the dynamic activity of the Poás Volcano, we advise against this tour for individuals with heart conditions, high blood pressure, recent surgical procedures, expectant mothers, or children.

As we ascend the mountain, the landscape transforms, and you’ll notice shifts in temperature and vegetation. En route, behold coffee plantations, fern, and flower farms, and even strawberry fields, creating a mesmerizing array of colors. Our journey continues with a captivating coffee tour at an actual plantation, where our knowledgeable guide will unveil the meticulous process behind producing Costa Rica’s finest coffee.

Our route then leads to Poas Volcano National Park, where the atmosphere and vibrant vegetation of the cloud forest come into focus.

Poás Volcano is an active stratovolcano, soaring to 2,708 meters (8,885 feet). The expansive crater spans over a mile and plunges to depths of 1050 feet. Its geological significance is evident with a recorded 40 eruptions since 1828, including a notable event in April 2017.

At the volcano, take time to marvel at the impressive main crater adorned with sulfur fumaroles. Embark on a trail to the captivating Botos Lagoon, delving into the diverse ecosystems that define the park.

After an amazing walk through the Poas Volcano National Park, we will visit,  La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park & Wildlife Refuge,  you are guaranteed an immersion into this captivating tapestry of life. Prepare to witness nature’s finest spectacle, where every corner reveals a new chapter of this awe-inspiring story.
