Overview

Located in the Northeastern region of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, between the Tortuguero Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, you can only reach this exclusive lodge by land/boat or air. By land, it is a 3-hour drive from San Jose to the Port of Matina followed by a 2 to a 2 ½-hours riverboat trip along the Canals of Tortuguero to the lodge. By air, it takes only 30 minutes from the San Jose airport to the Tortuguero Airstrip. And from the airstrip, it is a mere 5-minute boat ride to the lodge.

Tortuguero is a navigable network of lagoons and canals that crosses the National Park from Southeast to Northwest. This allows the great diversity of regional fauna and flora to be seen at close hand. Activities include daytime excursions to Tortuguero National Park, a visit to the town and to the Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC). During the summer months(July-September), night tours to search for the nesting of the Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) are also available.

The tours consist of journeys through the thickly vegetated narrow canals, in boats equipped with unobtrusive electric engines ? followed by hikes into the lush rain forest of the National Park area, where hikers can observe the micro-environments of the mangrove, and it?s many species of birds, mammals and reptiles. For the adventurous ecotourist, this tour through the Cerro Tortuguero is a must.

All tours are conducted and supervised by professionally-trained naturalist guides, who take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety while touring this tranquil yet untamed wilderness.
